Chapter 6

Kingston

It’s been a whole week since I first discovered how addicting my mate’s skin is. That was also the last time we’d been intimate, which isn’t sitting well with me or my wolf. I had just enough brain function to make sure I was doing the tasks expected of me. The rest of those cells were solely focused on the side to side sway of her round ass as we made our way through the woods.

Ruby isn’t just beautiful. She is so much more. She’s an exquisite creature who possesses the ability to leave anyone mesmerized, as well as eliminate them in the next breath.

I’d never thought of myself as a man who enjoyed an element of danger, but that all changed the moment I met her. Now, I want all the deadly parts to her. She can lead the way to our doom, and I’ll go willingly.

“If you keep staring like that, I’m pretty sure your eyes will come out of their sockets and attach to her ass,” Elijah whispers at my side.

“Why the fuck are you looking?”

“I’m not, you imbecile. I’m watching you, and it’s getting a little creepy. You look like a wolf hunting its prey, even more so than when you’re shifted.”

“I can’t help it. Not that you’re any better. I see the way you watch her friend. You know that’s not going to happen. Ruby won’t let you near her friend long enough to make a pass,” I mumble, hoping not to get caught by the two women walking in front of us. We’d left the cabin this morning, once we were sure Angel was well enough to weather the trip back to the Bridegroom camp to finish this once and for all.

“Who said we hadn’t already? What? You think you two are the only ones who get to leave the cabin to do dirty shit?”

“What are you two nitwits talking about back there?”

“Nothing, Ler Daza.”

“Stop calling me that. I’m not your whatever,” she says, puffing out air in annoyance. She may not think she is, but all in due time. For now, I’ll just keep messing with her and see how far I can push without her trying to stab me. I signal to him to keep quiet then run-up, pull her over one shoulder and take off. The other two laugh behind us and try to catch up.

Just as I’d remembered, the small spring is up ahead, and with a screaming and kicking Ruby, I go full-force ahead into the water. She splashes around clinging to me for dear life.

“What is wrong with you?! I don’t know how to swim!” she yells, clutching at my shirt, almost ripping it.

“It’s okay. I got you,” I reassure her, pulling her up by the hips and letting her sit on the ledge. “It’s extremely humid, and I thought it would be a good idea to cool off while I messed with you. I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I would never hurt you.”

Her anger is palpable, but my apology seems to pacify her a bit.
